SEPTEMBER 15th 4:00 PM WINTER SEMESTER DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION

Upcoming Events/Opportunities

EMILY CARR - 2012 ABORIGINAL ARTS STUDIO FOR TEENS
Deadline: February 24, 2012

Aboriginal youth aged 15 - 18 to participate in the 2012 Summer Institute for Aboriginal Teens at Emily Carr
University of Art + Design, in Vancouver BC. The program runs July 3 - 27, 2012, and explored traditional and
contemporary Aboriginal Arts in a multi-disciplinary environment, with lots of hands-on studio time painting,
drawing and printmaking, and special workshops in cedar bark basketry, beading and leather work.

The Aboriginal Arts studio component is complemented with a Visual Culture course and a Core Skills course,
in which students from the Aboriginal Arts Studio meet and learn with students from the nine other studio areas
in the Summer Institute for Teens. The program ends with a gallery exhibit of student work and a reception for friends
and family. Full program information is available online, on our Teens + Youth page.

There are 12 full scholarships available to the Summer Institute for Aboriginal Teens - each valued at $2500 - covering
tuition fees, field trips and all materials. The scholarship application is attached; the deadline is February 24, 2012.

Please note that we encourage candidates from outside of the Lower Mainland to apply, but that scholarships
do not cover the cost of travel to Vancouver BC or accommodations.

YVR ART FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

Deadline: extended to February 22, 2012.

• There was some confusion with the age requirement, and that has been adjusted so that anyone 25 years or younger, at any time in 2012 (i.e. born in 1986 or later), is eligible to apply.

• Also, the Frank O'Neill Visionary Award is open to applications this year. The guidelines and application form are attached, but is essentially the same as the YVR Art Foundation Scholarship Award, aimed at emerging or "young in one's career" artists, except that there is NO AGE LIMIT for this award. The application form is attached here with guidelines.

• Anyone who has applied for the YVR Art Foundation Scholarship Award will automatically be entered into the review process for the Frank O'Neill Visionary Award, i.e., there is no need to send in a second application form.

Please feel free to pass this email and information along to anyone you think might be interested. We also have links and more information on our Facebook page: YVR Art Foundation Scholarship Program http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=107763899254612. Please be our "friend"!

We are really looking forward to seeing this year's applicants and all the wonderful artwork that is being created.
